ICZM (integrated coastal zone management)-Aqaba

The Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) in cooperation with United Nations Development Program (UNDP) funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) is currently implementing the project titled “Mainstreaming marine biodiversity conservation into coastal zone management in the Aqaba Special Economic Zone”. The main goal of this project is to internalize biodiversity as an asset and value, and for economic and infrastructure development to take into account the sensitivity of the ecosystems while meeting national objectives and remaining economically viable.

The project main components are:

  • Knowledge management systems for planning and investment.
  • Promotion of biodiversity friendly investment and development.
  • Institutional capacity for Integrated Coastal Zone Management and biodiversity conservation.
  • Coral reef protection.

ArabEnv is participating as the technical partner in the implementation of:

  • The national report for the project to protect the coastal environment and marine biodiversity in Aqaba.
  • Strategy and action plan for protection and sustaining marine and coastal environment in Aqaba.
